Great Coffee Is Like Fine Wine

To the true coffee connoisseur, the beans, roast and resulting aromas and flavors are not unlike fine wine. Rich, rewarding and full of flavor, good brews are meant to be savored, enjoyed and taken in.

To drink too fast or too slow without enjoying the bouquet and the richness of flavor would be a breach of etiquette. To this type of coffee drinker, a coffee bean isn't ready for the grinder until it's been roasted to its absolute perfection. Whether a subtle light roast or a robust dark, the expertise of the roaster at flavoring the bean is crucial for a good cup of coffee.

But, for the rest of the world, coffee is coffee. Despite this, people know the brands, the flavors and the mixes they like. Whether it's X name brand from the can or Y type of beans, freshly roasted and ground, the type and style of coffee people like has become highly personalized.

With literally hundreds of choices of brands, flavors, roasts and additives, it's no wonder coffee has become a very personalized venture. Served warm, hot and even iced with a milkshake twist, there's a coffee to match just about every type of taste.

Some of the most popular coffees on the market today include:

* Regular American light roast. This subtle flavored creation is the mainstay of most American drinkers. Less bold than its European counterparts, the key to this flavor is a quick roasting time.
* Dark. Whether medium or full-dark in roasting, these varieties are stronger and bolder than the American blends. They are kept in the roaster longer to ensure a richer flavor is released from the beans. Espresso dark, however, is kept in the longest right to the point of burn.
* Iced. This confection can be full flavored coffee or mixed with ice cream, cream, sugar and more. A treat touted by restaurants ranging from fast-food joints to coffeehouses and beyond, iced coffee is a big sensation on the market now.
* Flavored coffee. Infused with the aromas of other flavors right after the roasting phases, these beans take on an array of flavors. They can include fruit flavors, nuts, chocolate, vanilla and more. The sky's almost the limit here when it comes to choices.

Whether you like a plain old cup of coffee with a little bit of cream or straight up dark roast black with no sugar, if you're a coffee lover, there's little doubt you like it your way. Coffee drinkers are found the world over and this "club" is responsible for making the bean the world's second largest commodity.

Wine clubs are fun and convenient way for wine lovers to experience wine at its fullest. You can give a wine club membership as a present to a loved one or enjoy the benefits of it on your own.

Every month, wine club members receive two hand-selected bottles of premium wines with accompanying notes from wine experts. They also get recipes and suggested food pairings.

Your wine club membership delivered to your work address, even to your relatives or neighbors, wherever is more convenient. Remember that only an adult over 21 years old can sign for the package. State laws and the availability of carrier services determine who will deliver your wines.

For many, the cost of shipping the wine is more compared to the cost of just buying wines at a local store. However, keep in mind that once the cost for shipping is factored in, the price might end up the same if you had purchased the wine at the local store instead.

Recent surveys reveal that members are quite satisfied with their wine clubs because of their impeccable wine selection and additional information about the wines. They are also happy with being able to taste different kinds of wine from different countries without having to track down the selections at various stores.

There are different kinds of membership in wine clubs. There is the membership wherein you will receive member benefits and will be billed on a monthly basis. You can cancel your membership anytime. In this form, prices of wines do not include shipping costs. There is also the prepaid membership in 3, 6 or 12-month subscriptions. Memberships may vary per wine club. No Wine in the Box on the Equinox

September 22nd is the Autumn Equinox and with it comes the cool breezes of fall. So, put away your boxes and your Sauvignon Blancs and get ready for a change in season. Autumn, with its flavorful stews and roasted turkey, has a taste all its own and for you, the wine lover, you get your own flavors too. Here are just a few suggestions for fall food and wine pairing.

Start the season the way that most meals start; with the appetizers. A perfect wine match for appetizers is sparkling wine. Try Castellblanch Cava Brut Zero Reserva, Penedes, Spain , a nice, refreshing sparkler from Spain. Floral aromas and almond flavors combine with waxy texture to get the digestive juices flowing. Castellblanch blends the grapes carefully to harmonize flavor, crispness, and body. The Brut Zero pops out with a refreshing blend of apple, pear, and citrus aromas that carry through from the nose to the finish. The underlying sweetness of the wine cools the effects of hot, spicy, or salty foods. The acidity in the wine makes it a refreshing food and wine pairing for an appetizer table, which tends to include an array of intense flavors.

When you serve turkey, make the harvest celebration complete by serving Castellblanch Monticello Pinot Noir . A nice balance between savory (vegetable and mushroom) and succulent berry fruit make this an interesting and very tasty Pinot Noir. It has a fruity nose, with notes of spicy raspberry and strawberry as well as touches of vanilla and cola. A bit more spice comes through on the palate without disturbing the fruitiness. The wine is full-bodied, but the tannins are light, making it especially suitable at the table.

Prime rib, roast beef or other beef dishes pair perfectly with a big fruity red zinfandel. Watts Old Vine Iris Vineyards Zinfandel will enhance these main courses. Fresh, lively, blackberry aromas and loads of juicy ripe fruit make for a very tasty Zin. The wine offers a great mix of dark fruit aromas with a touch of chocolate, Zinfandel's full-bodied frame, and light tannins. It is the perfect food and wine pairing when beef is on the menu.

Autumn desserts, like pumpkin pie or apple pie, have sweet, spicy, and earthy elements. The perfect pairing for these flavors is Sauternes, a naturally sweet white wine from Bordeaux. Sauternes have the subtle sweetness to stand up to the flavors of fall desserts, and will enhance the sweet, spicy, earthy flavors in the desserts.

So, whatever the course or what is on the menu, there is a perfect wine for you this fall. For this and other food and wine pairings, go to www.kitchentokitchennews.com/Pairing_Food_with_Wine .
